In the trial for racketeering, Neal defended Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards on the winning side.

James Neal grabbed enough headlines in his long career span defined by the affable and obsequious way with friends and foes alike outside the court. While during trial proceedings, he met was known for steely gazes.
